Criminal Defense

Being charged with a crime is a serious matter.  A conviction can result in the loss of liberty, a fine, the forfeiture of property, the loss of voting rights, the exclusion from certain types of work, the denial of certain licenses, and the loss of the right to purchase and possess firearms. For immigrants, a criminal conviction can lead to deportation. Even the conviction of a minor crime can impair your future job or educational prospects. For these reasons, it is important to mount the most vigorous defense possible in every criminal matter.

Criminal Law has been an important focus from the very beginning with more than 3000 cases handled. A second area of interest has been Personal Injury, over 2000 cases have been handled in that field as well. A third area of interest is Family Law, with only about 400 cases handled.

In 1995, the primary focus of the practice shifted from Personal Injury to Criminal Practice. This was partially in response to the vast sums of money spent in advertising, primarily TV ads, by a relatively small number of law firms. It was also in response to dramatic changes in the field of criminal law itself that have occurred over the last 20 years. Civil and Personal Injury cases are still accepted, but only on a limited basis, for past clients, and auto accident victims with severe injuries.

While "minor" offenses such as drunk driving and petty theft cases are routinely accepted, "white collar" crimes, insurance fraud, sex offenses, and embezzlement are cases in which past experience in civil practice is especially beneficial to the prospective client. Extensive experience in dealing with physicians and medial issues has proven invaluable in handling forcible rape cases. Extensive experience with insurance companies has shown similar benefits in dealing with insurance fraud and embezzlement cases.
